Yes, it’s been a long time since I’ve posted
to the blog. Recuperation from back to back
surgeries and then being thrown back into a
heavy show schedule has kept me from
“business as usual”.
Since I last posted in April, I participated in
10 shows. Finally, now that the heat of July
is here, I am taking a much needed rest (after
this Saturday’s show) until August 14th.
Reports of the last 10 shows aren’t rosy!
Sales are way down, attendance is way down,
and we had some horrendous weather to contend
with.
And I’m not alone! All my art and crafting
friends are saying the same. Seems we are all
taking a beating by the economy. Right now we
are in “survival” mode, and probably will be until,
at the very least, the fall. We are all counting on
Christmas sales to save our behinds this year.
Believe it or not, the high dollar shows were the
biggest disappointments. I personally did much
better sticking close to home with the $50-$75
rents. Several that I participated in were upwards
of $200-$250, required lots of travel, and they
just weren’t worth it.
I also suffered a lot of damage this year during
the bad weather. I faired better than some, many
losing tents and complete displays. All in all, I
took a $800 beating in damages in June. I’m still
picking up the pieces.
How has YOUR summer been thus far?
Till next time…….

Well your Book BuddEZ pal doesn't have much better to report other than an amazing show in Glen Rock that from outward appearances would have been questionable but turned out amazing with almost 10 times the rent ($250)! For those who don't know me I mostly sell $3 and $5 items. The shows I have done great in past years have been miserably hot and no one to shop them. I just participated in an AMAZINGLY attended event,we are talking 1000's of people, fireworks with music and no food tent unfilled, not so great for vendors. That day for 6 hours I didn't even make $40.. I can see a difference in shopping trends than from the spring where money seemed to flowing and crowds were out and about. Maybe waiting for the other shoe to drop in the Gulf Spill or some other pending disaster as it seems to come in waves for our country lately. I am hoping for an amazing fall as I have invested in alot of inventory to carry me through the year.. I look forward to being "out" in January ! I have a few shows in July and two or three in August.. Not so fond of working in the heat but when other people don't meet their obligations.. you do what you gotta do ! Wishing everyone the best.
I like doing some crafts.
At the present I'm working on a knitted sleeping bag for my son.
He wants it badly and he keeps on giving me my knitting needles with the ball or yarn and he says: Knit mommy, knit!!
Thanks for post. It’s really informative stuff.
I really like to read.Hope to learn a lot and have a nice experience here! my best regards guys!
